Our local woods...

I continually consider it a privilege to currently be living right beside woodland - predominantly beech trees but mixed with fir as well.

Multiple daily walks with Willow have brought an appreciation of the wonders of the woodland. Watching it change over the seasons from the autumn colours, through to the bare trees of winter and then into the new life of spring, followed by the warmer summer months - ever changing. So much bird life and nature on display. From the dominant voice of the song thrush filling the air with its endless variation of melodies as it marks its territory; Roe deer hidden amongst the trees on occasions; Woodcock during the winter months noticed circling the open areas of the wood. The tawny owls calling to one another in spring, as well as the drumming of the great spotted woodpecker. We’ve seen pine martens from the bedroom window on a couple of occasions, as well the red squirrel on the neighbour’s feeder at the edge of the wood.

Each day I go out taking the mobile phone so that I have a camera available for those particular moments worth recording. Noticing the changes in light depending on the time of day and the impact on the shadows and colours around mean that there is often something fresh and different to capture. It has resulted in a continually growing repository of photos that keep alive the memories of those moments over the months.

The following sample of photos are all taken with the phone camera (just a Samsung A71) and are edited on the phone in the Snapseed app.
