With the clocks going back this weekend and some sunshine predicted for the Saturday afternoon, I wondered if it would be the last opportunity to capture the Scottish autumn colours in sunlight before the trees would soon be bare and barren over the coming winter months.
On one of my runs I was suitably struck by the colours along the route on an uphill road section before I disappear through the woods. Hence I had plans to visit the same place with the camera gear.
I ventured out therefore during the afternoon hoping for the right light. It turned out that the sunlight was fairly intermittent but it didn’t hinder getting some lovely examples of the colours:
The weather then changed with grey clouds and rain showers so I continued driving up the road passing superb colours in the woodland and went onwards on a circular route to the post office on an errand. By the time I was returning, the clouds had cleared and so I decided to revisit the area, ending up stopping alongside some beautiful woodland including a gorge with a stream running through it. It turned out that I had found ‘the perfect spot’ to hang out and get a collection of photos of autumn foliage in all its golden glory before heading home.
On one side of the road there were super views over beyond where we live to the distant hills:
On the other side of the road the sun was creating a very atmospheric environment of shadows and golden light.
Such a special place and special season of the year. It will be interesting to see how this transforms in the deep mid-winter. I may be back!
