This past week I thought it was time to try to record some activities around the feeding station which we’ve set up in the garden. Living in the country has completely transformed the scale of bird activity around the feeders compared to when we were living down south. We are daily having large numbers of birds including goldfinch, brambling, chaffinch, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, house sparrows, etc. Flocks of goldfinch can be in the tens and twenties, along with growing numbers brambling, seen in the photo below:
All the photos are taken through the double glazing, so not the best ‘photographic conditions’! I am thinking of setting up the tripod and camera outside (maybe under camouflage) to compare the results, even so, I have been really pleased with what I’ve managed to capture so far.
The goldfinches are the most interesting to watch as they have some serious ‘attitude’ when it comes to their social habits. You get a glimpse of this in the photos below:
My Favourite photo was this next one. I’ve found it hard to repeat this sort of capture again, but not for want of trying!
The long tailed tits visit as an entire family it seems and fill up the fat feeders in the process!!
At one point the great spotted woodpecker came to investigate - I wonder how long before it is brave enough to try the feeders!
to be continued …
Postscript! After having posted this blog entry, about twenty minutes later the great spotted woodpecker arrived and promptly landed on the peanut feeder, and then fat feeder! Obviously didn’t take long to build the confidence needed.
Addendum: With it being the weekend I decided to set up the tripod (still behind the double glazing) and take a different approach to capturing the action - it was well worth it when I managed to capture the result below:
