Autumn was very special this year following our move up here to the Highlands. Last weekend I was treated to some excellent light and shadows in the woods, as the mild weather we had been experiencing was soon to depart and to be replaced with the first taste of winter.
As the following week progressed the temperature started to fall and in the early mornings we were treated to great views of the distant mountains cloaked in snow:
We then caught the edge of Storm Arwen which battered the east coast of the UK and brought with it very strong winds on the Friday, along with our first winter wonderland since living here, waking up on the Saturday morning to fresh snow fall all around and again across the mountains:
I was hoping for some sunlight in the woods during the morning to capture some atmospheric photos but it wasn’t to be. However on a visit to Inverness I stopped at one of my favourite views on the route to get a few photos. Interestingly there was much less snow than where we are living.
After returning from Inverness I went for a discovery drive to see whether I could find any elevated locations by car to view the mountain landscape. This wasn’t just for that day but for potential future visits and found a nice spot - although potentially tricky in the car if it was icy or snow covered as the roads were really steep.
So, a gentle introduction to the winter that is coming, and hopefully some more opportunities in the future to get out and about with the snow!
