A halo and an aurora!

Special moments come in many different forms!

Early this particular evening the phone alerted me of an aurora and when I checked the aurora map it looked like it would be pretty intense: the edge stretching down over north Scotland.

I popped out with the camera to check - knowing there was likely to be heavy cloud cover, and wasn’t surprised to see nothing but cloud! A disappointment with such an aurora occurring behind the scenes.

Late in the evening I took Willow out of the house for her late evening walk and noticed the skies had cleared a bit and that there was some colour …. green! I rushed back into the house to get the camera and was so pleased to get a super record of the continuing aurora spectacle.

It started fairly calm with a glow of green but then fingers of green light could be seen:

In between taking these photos I looked up over the house at the moon and was stunned to see the largest moon halo I’ve ever seen. Incredible!

The remaining time was spent switching between the aurora and the halo taking photos!

Until cloud cover started to break up the party… literally!

A great way to end the week and enter the weekend!
