Snow and water ...

The weather recently has been very changeable with temperatures rising and falling and consequent rain or snow as weather fronts moved across the Highlands.

Overnight snow had capped the mountains in the distance, with Sunday afternoon seeming to be a great chance to pop out in the car to find a high spot to get some photos. Unfortunately the weather suddenly turned, with darkening skies and the mountain tops disappearing into grey clouds bringing more snow fall over them as we left the house.

Change of plans meant a road trip just to see what views presented themselves.

We did get to see the mountain top in the end as the cloud lifted while we were out. It’s on my bucket list this year to get to the top of this one - Beinn a Bhathaich Ard (862m) - the peaks that can be seen from our house.

Not too many miles from where we live we passed a picturesque bridge and river that warranted parking up to investigate.

A short walk from the road further upstream revealed a series of small waterfalls and torrents of water from all the rain and snow we have had. A little treasure hidden away from the road.

I hadn’t brought my tripod, so to improvise I rested the camera against trees, rocks and left it sitting on moss for the variety of photos to try and accommodate the slow shutter speeds and keep the sharpness of the photos. Definitely a place I want to return to, armed with tripod, camera and filters to get the most out of a beautiful little river.

As I wrote this blog the sun was setting, bringing great colours in the sky over the mountain, reflected on the mountain slopes:

But the cloud was rising with threatenings of more snow

And as I bring this blog to a close the view out of the window is the same we’ve seen a number of times since living here!
